The Office of the Board was first located at the premises of the Law Faculty, University of Malaya where the Special Course Leading to the CLP was able to be conducted by the Board in collaboration with the said Faculty due to the small number of candidates. In 1994, with the increase in the number of candidates for the CLP examination, the Office then shifted to the Straits Trading Building, Kuala Lumpur and the CLP examination became an external examination although University of Malaya continued to conduct the Special Course for a few years thereafter.
The Office was relocated to Menara Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur in December 1998. With effect from 27 June 2011, the Office of the Board is located at:
The Office is headed by a Director, CLP Examination as appointed by the Board. Since April 2002, senior officers from the Judicial and Legal Service have served as the Director, CLP Examination on secondment. The Director is assisted by a Secretary (General Management & Finance), Secretary (Management of Examinations), Secretary (Admission of Examination) and 8 permanent clerical staff.
The Office is entrusted with all matters pertaining to the CLP examination such as determining the examination syllabus and eligibility of applicants; registering the applicants, preparing the examination papers; managing the examination; processing and announcing the results; and issuing the certificates.
The Office does not conduct any preparatory courses for candidates sitting for the CLP examination. Registered candidates could do their own preparation for the CLP examination or enroll themselves in a private college of their choice which offer such courses.
